Sudan Conflict: 14 Million Displaced, 25 Million in Need of Assistance
The ongoing conflict in Sudan has resulted in a staggering 14 million people fleeing their homes, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM). This includes 11 million internally displaced persons and 3.1 million who have crossed borders to escape the fighting.
The crisis, which began in April 2023, has ravaged the country, leaving nearly 30% of Sudan's population displaced. The situation is dire, with almost 25 million people in need of assistance.
"The numbers are alarming," said IOM Director-General Amy Pope. "The international community must act swiftly to provide aid to those affected."
The conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces has devastated Sudan's economy, with predictions of an 18.3% contraction in 2024.
