Karnataka's Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, has taken a significant step to support the state's farmers affected by recent floods. On Thursday, he announced an additional grant of over ₹1,033 crore to be distributed among the affected farmers. This aid is in addition to the funds already released under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF). According to the Chief Minister, there has been crop loss in an area of 14.58 lakh hectares, impacting 14.24 lakh farmers across the state. To provide relief, the state government has requested the Centre to release the state's share of compensation, totaling ₹1,521.67 crore for recovery and reconstruction, as well as ₹614.9 crore for compensation to the farmers. The damage caused by the floods is estimated to be around ₹3,455 crore, but the state has to adhere to the norms set by the Centre. The Chief Minister emphasized that his government is committed to supporting the farmers and has already submitted a request to the Centre for the release of these funds. The additional grant of ₹1,033.6 crore will be directly credited to the bank accounts of the deputy commissioners of the affected districts, who will then distribute the funds to the farmers through the Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AePS). This move is aimed at providing quick and efficient relief to the affected farmers, and it reflects the state government's commitment to their welfare.
