In a landmark verdict, a local court in Bulandshahr has sentenced 25 individuals to seven years in prison for their involvement in a 2005 cow slaughter case. The incident, which took place on May 2, 2005, involved unidentified men allegedly slaughtering cattle in a forest area between Akbarpur and Kamalpur villages. When police arrived at the scene, they found carcasses and remnants of the slaughtered animals. However, as officers attempted to apprehend the suspects, two of them allegedly opened fire, forcing the police to narrowly escape. The police recovered equipment used for cow slaughter, a country-made pistol, and cartridges from the site. The investigation led to the addition of sections under the Gangsters Act, and chargesheets were filed against 30 accused. After a thorough examination of evidence and hearing arguments from both sides, Additional Sessions Judge Chand Vijay Shrinet convicted 25 of the accused on November 14. On Monday, the court sentenced the 25 convicts to seven years in prison under the Cow Slaughter Prevention Act, along with a fine of ₹5,000. They were also sentenced to seven years under the Gangsters Act with a fine of ₹10,000 and a fine of ₹50 under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. Bulandshahr City Superintendent of Police Shankar Prasad confirmed that all 25 convicts have been taken into custody and lodged in the district jail following the sentencing.
