In a significant blow to the Maoist movement in Telangana, 37 members of the Communist Party of India (Maoist) surrendered to the authorities in Hyderabad on Saturday. Among them were three high-ranking state committee members, who had been on the run for over three decades and carried a bounty of ₹20 lakh each. The surrendered Maoists, including 25 women and 12 men, handed over a large cache of arms, including an AK-47 assault rifle, four .303 rifles, and ammunition. They also received a total of ₹1.41 crore in reward money and ₹25,000 as immediate assistance. The surrender was a result of an appeal made by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy during the Police Martyrs' Day event on October 21, urging Maoists to return to the mainstream. Director General of Police B Shivadhar Reddy hailed the surrender as a significant operational success in weakening Maoist firepower in the region. However, 59 more Maoists from Telangana, including five central committee members, continue to remain underground. The DGP appealed to them to surrender at the earliest and rejoin society. The state government has also announced a comprehensive rehabilitation and resettlement package for those from Telangana who surrender.
