A daring daylight heist left Bengaluru police scrambling to track down a gang of thieves who allegedly hijacked a van carrying over ₹7.11 crore in cash. The incident occurred on Wednesday near the Ashoka Pillar when a group of men, posing as RBI officials, intercepted a cash management services company's van and commandeered it. According to police, the van was diverted from its planned route and stopped at a location with limited CCTV coverage. The vehicle was later found abandoned near the Jayadeva Dairy Circle flyover with the cash missing. Police have detained the van driver, two armed guards, and a cash depositor, and are investigating the role of the cash management services staff in the robbery. Delays in reporting the incident and the lack of resistance from the staff have complicated the probe and raised suspicions of internal collusion. The police are reviewing records, analyzing the route taken by the attackers, and questioning the staff to determine if any of them may have provided information or assistance. The investigation team is also examining whether the group was from Bengaluru or from outside Karnataka. Home Minister G. Parameshwara has assured that the authorities will catch the perpetrators, citing the availability of vehicle number and other details. The incident has been described as unprecedented in Bengaluru's history, and police are on high alert to prevent any further incidents.
