Shimla: The central government has approved a significant ₹93.55 crore fund for repairing embankments along the crucial National Highway-154A in Chamba district, following a persistent plea by the Himachal Pradesh government. Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh confirmed the development, citing the need to strengthen the embankments due to frequent landslides, erosion, and safety risks to commuters. The approval comes after a thorough assessment of the damage caused by recent rains in Chamba district. Singh, who personally visited the affected areas, had been pushing for the central government's assistance in repairing the embankments. The Union Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has now issued technical and administrative approval for the project. NH-154A is a vital route for tourists, traders, and local residents, and the embankment repairs will help reduce road closures and disruptions, especially during heavy rains. The project will be executed under close monitoring to avoid delays and cost overruns. The Regional Officer of the MoRTH in Shimla will oversee the project, and the work will be carried out as per the technical note issued by the ministry. This development is seen as a significant step towards improving road safety and disaster preparedness in Himachal Pradesh. The state government remains committed to securing similar approvals for other vulnerable stretches on national highways to ensure uninterrupted mobility across the state.
