In a major setback for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), senior leader Rajesh Gupta has quit the party and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Gupta, a former two-time MLA and national spokesperson for AAP, made the switch just days before the bypolls to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). Gupta's decision comes after he expressed frustration with the AAP leadership, particularly Arvind Kejriwal. He accused the party of having a 'use and throw' policy towards its workers, saying that they are treated as disposable assets. Gupta claimed that he had been loyal and dedicated to the party, but was met with indifference from the leadership. In an emotional outburst, Gupta recalled his years with AAP and the experiences he had with Kejriwal's leadership. He alleged that the party's treatment of its workers was a major reason for its downfall. Gupta also claimed that AAP had fielded a candidate in the MCD bypolls who had previously received a notice from the party itself, highlighting the party's internal issues. BJP's Delhi unit chief Virendra Sachdeva welcomed Gupta into the party, saying that AAP leaders were now pointing to issues created during their own 12-year rule. Sachdeva also criticized AAP leaders Atishi and Gopal Rai for making 'special appearances' during the bypoll campaign, while Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia were absent. Gupta's decision to quit AAP and join the BJP is seen as a significant blow to the party ahead of the bypolls. The party's leadership will need to address the issues raised by Gupta and other disgruntled workers to regain their confidence and momentum.
