AAP Takes Early Lead as Punjab Local Body Poll Results Begin to Unfold

Punjab's local body polls have kicked off, with counting underway at 154 centres across the state. The contests for zila parishad and panchayat samiti seats were held on December 15, seeing a multi-party contest involving major parties like AAP, Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal, and BJP. Over 9,000 candidates participated, with a voter turnout of 48% recorded in the daylong election. The Aam Aadmi Party has taken an early lead, but the final results for the 347 zila parishad and 2,838 panchayat samiti zones are yet to be announced.
