A remarkable reunion unfolded in Himachal Pradesh's Sirmaur district after a 61-year-old man, who had been living a separate life for 45 years, finally found his way back home. Rikhi, a resident of Nadi village, was reunited with his family after a second head injury triggered a return of his long-lost memories. The incident dates back to 1980 when Rikhi, then 16, met with a serious road accident in Haryana's Yamunanagar. The head injury he suffered resulted in the loss of his memories, including his name, home, and past. He was eventually referred to as Ravi Chaudhary by his friends. Rikhi moved to Mumbai, then to Nanded, Maharashtra, where he got married and built a life with his three children. However, everything changed a few months ago when he suffered another head injury. This time, faint memories began to resurface, including images of a mango tree, village paths, and the courtyard of his childhood home in Sataun. With the help of a college student, Rikhi began to piece together his memories and eventually contacted his village through a phone number he found online. One of his relatives, M K Chaubey, recognised the fragments of his past, and on November 15, Rikhi was finally reunited with his family. Despite the rare nature of this case, mental health experts say that memory restoration after injury is not impossible. However, the exact cause of this phenomenon can only be determined through medical investigations and brain scans. The reunion was met with joy and tears by Rikhi's family and villagers, who gathered to welcome him back home. His siblings, who had given up hope of ever seeing him again, were overjoyed to be reunited with their long-lost brother. 'Such instances are rare, and there is so much happiness in the family and in the village,' said Rudra Sharma, Rikhi's cousin and a local resident.
