Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced plans to implement a multi-lane free flow toll system and AI-driven highway management across the country by the end of 2026. This cutting-edge technology will significantly reduce wait times at toll plazas, saving commuters up to 3 minutes per transaction. The new system, which uses AI-powered number plate recognition through satellite, will also increase government revenue and help prevent toll theft. According to Gadkari, the implementation of the multi-lane free flow toll system will result in fuel savings of ₹1,500 crore and an additional ₹6,000 crore in government revenue. The minister emphasized that the government's primary focus is on national highways, but he acknowledged that state highways and city roads often face issues that are mistakenly attributed to national highways. Gadkari assured that the government is working to make the system transparent and corruption-free.
