Union Home Minister Amit Shah hailed Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's over two-decade rule as a golden period for Bihar, as Kumar filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.

Shah praised Kumar's spotless career, saying it's unprecedented for any political leader to have maintained a clean record even after four decades in public life.

Kumar's tenure has been highly successful, with notable achievements including ridding the state of 'jungle raj', ensuring road connectivity and electricity across the state, and lending speed to the state's progress.

Shah also credited Kumar for living by the principles of socialist leader Jai Prakash Narayan, maintaining simplicity and the highest standards of public life.

The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is expected to win four of the five Rajya Sabha seats easily, but is short of three votes for the fifth seat, which will be contested by Rashtriya Lok Morcha's Upendra Kushwaha and Rashtriya Janata Dal's Amarendra Dhari Singh.
