The family of a 25-year-old man from Andhra Pradesh's Vijayawada town is seeking justice after nearly 40 days of his disappearance, with allegations of custodial torture and murder.

The man, Gade Sai Krishna, was picked up by Krishna Lanka police in NTR district on May 9 and has been missing since.

His mother, Gade Vijayalakshmi, approached the high court through a habeas corpus petition on June 4, seeking directions to trace and produce her son before the court or his mortal remains.

Despite the high court's orders, the state government's counsel informed the court on June 15 that Sai Krishna's whereabouts were unknown, and steps were being taken to trace him.

Vijayalakshmi suspects that the police might have killed her son with custodial torture and are deliberately covering up the facts.

The opposition YSR Congress Party has demanded a CBI probe into the incident, alleging that officials at various levels had failed to act despite complaints and warning signs.
