The Andhra Pradesh government is seeking central assistance to build a 6-lane iconic cable-stayed bridge across the Krishna River, connecting the state capital region Amaravati to two major national highways. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu met Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi, highlighting the need for improved connectivity to support the growth of Amaravati, a new greenfield capital city. The proposed 5-kilometer bridge, which would ease congestion at existing crossings, would offer seamless links to the Vijayawada-Hyderabad corridor and the Chennai-Kolkata highway. It would also integrate Amaravati with the proposed Hyderabad-Amaravati greenfield expressway, enabling high-speed access between the two major cities. The chief minister emphasized that improved connections would significantly reduce travel time for citizens, enhance logistics movement, and transform Amaravati into a mobility hub and a strategic logistics node within the national highway network. The state government has already invited public feedback to finalize the designs for the bridge, which would be a critical infrastructure project for the Andhra Pradesh capital. The proposed bridge has sparked interest in the state, with four design options presented for public voting, including three inspired by Kuchipudi dance mudras. The final decision will be based on public voting, an official said. The Andhra Pradesh government is hoping to receive full central support for the execution of this iconic bridge, which would be a major boost to regional development and economic progress in the state.
