A soldier with the Indian Army lost his life in a tragic incident during a routine training exercise in the Indira Gandhi Canal in Rajasthan's Sriganganagar district. The incident occurred when a tank, part of a scheduled drill, sank in the canal's deeper waters, trapping three crew members inside. Two soldiers were able to escape with assistance from their colleagues, but one jawan remained missing until his body was recovered later in the day. According to officials, the strong current, depth, and reduced visibility of the canal posed significant challenges for the rescue team, comprising divers from Bikaner and senior Army officials. The incident is currently under investigation, and a formal statement from the Army is awaited. Local police officials confirmed that the training activity was authorized and being conducted near the 226 Reduced Distance (RD) point of the IGNP canal.
