Arunachal Pradesh's Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein is pushing for accelerated construction of the Chongkham-Brahmakund highway, a strategic two-lane national highway in the Lohit district. Connecting the districts of Namsai, Lohit, and Anjaw, the 61.15 km highway is crucial for improving connectivity, regional development, and tourism in the state. Mein emphasized the importance of completing the project on time, citing its potential to ease travel, unlock new trade and tourism opportunities, and boost socio-economic development in the region. The highway forms a key component of a larger ₹44,000-crore national highway expansion package approved for the state, aimed at enhancing connectivity in remote and border districts. During a meeting with the executive director of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), Ashish Gupta, Mein highlighted the dilapidated condition of the existing road and urged NHIDCL to expedite maintenance and construction activities. NHIDCL officials assured the deputy chief minister that necessary preparatory steps would be taken swiftly and coordination with field agencies would be reinforced to begin construction soon. The Chongkham-Brahmakund highway is expected to improve access to the sacred Parshuram Kund, a popular pilgrimage site, and facilitate smoother movement for tourists and pilgrims. The project's estimated cost is around ₹915 crore, and its timely completion is seen as a crucial step towards bolstering connectivity and regional development in eastern Arunachal Pradesh.
