Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has identified the state's cooperative sector as a key driver for its economic future. Speaking at a five-day capacity-building workshop in Tawang, Khandu described the initiative as a transformative milestone that will modernize and revitalize the sector. The workshop, organized in partnership with Tribhuvan Sahkari University in Gujarat, brought together experts, practitioners, and emerging cooperative leaders for intensive training on cooperative governance, entrepreneurship, and financial management. The sessions covered topics such as strategic thinking, business planning, and inter-departmental convergence. Khandu emphasized the importance of a collaborative approach in building resilient grassroots institutions. He noted that many local cooperatives in rural areas require renewed capacity, professional management practices, and a clearer roadmap to become financially viable and community-driven. The workshop is expected to serve as a foundation for a series of reforms aimed at rejuvenating dormant cooperatives, promoting entrepreneurship, and improving financial discipline and accountability within the sector. Follow-up activities and structured mentorship will be introduced to ensure continuity and effective implementation at the ground level. According to officials, a strong cooperative network is vital for expanding livelihood opportunities in sectors such as dairy, fisheries, agriculture, and handicrafts. The initiative is seen as a meaningful step towards empowering cooperative leaders and advancing grassroots economic development for a self-reliant Arunachal Pradesh.
