Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has revealed that investigators believe one person killed singer Zubeen Garg, while four to five others assisted in the act. Speaking at the Assam Assembly, Sarma confirmed that the case has been treated as a murder from the very beginning. The Assam Police had filed a First Information Report (FIR) under various sections, including culpable homicide and causing death by rash and negligent act, after sensing irregularities immediately following Garg's death in Singapore on September 19, 2025. The state government has been actively pursuing the case, with the court granting 14-day custody to the accused, Shyamkanu Mahanta, and others, without granting bail. Sarma has assured the Assembly that the chargesheet will be submitted before the court on December 8. The Assam Assembly has admitted an adjournment motion to discuss Zubeen Garg's death, with several MLAs demanding that the government reveal the names of those involved and propose a Bharat Ratna for the late singer. Sarma has stated that he is open to moving the proposal, but in a proper manner. The Assam government's swift action in treating the case as a murder from the beginning has raised questions about the involvement of others, including a possible conspiracy. As the investigation continues, the people of Assam await justice for the celebrated musician who left an indelible mark on the state's music scene.
