Assam's Kokrajhar district has been gripped by unrest following a mob lynching incident on January 19. The state government has imposed prohibitory orders, suspended mobile internet services, and deployed Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel to maintain law and order. According to officials, the incident occurred when a Scorpio vehicle collided with two tribals at Mansingh Road in Kokrajhar. The tribals retaliated, thrashing the Bodo individuals and setting their vehicle ablaze. As tensions escalated, both Bodo and Adivasi communities blocked the National Highway, burnt tyres, and attacked an office building and the Karigaon outpost. To address the situation, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has appealed for cooperation from community leaders and political representatives. He has also urged everyone to assist the government in restoring peace and normalcy in the region. The Bodoland Territorial Council's Chief Executive Member, Hagrama Mohilary, has suggested that a 'third force' may be fuelling the violence in the region. He has urged people not to be provoked or indulge in violence, emphasizing that indigenous communities and the Bodo community have lived together peacefully for a long time. The suspension of mobile internet services and prohibitory orders are aimed at maintaining public safety and preventing further violence. The situation is being closely monitored by the state administration, with senior officials coordinating efforts on the ground to restore peace in the region.
