In a bid to curb communal tensions, Assam Police has arrested two individuals for posting inflammatory content on social media related to a recent mob lynching incident in Bangladesh. The arrests were made in Kamrup and Hailakandi districts. Mohammad Shaif Akhtar Ali, a resident of Rangia town in Kamrup, was taken into custody for sharing a graphic video of the killing of a Hindu youth in Bangladesh on Facebook and Instagram. The video's accompanying comments were deemed capable of promoting communal disharmony. In Hailakandi, Izazur Rahman Laskar (19) was arrested for circulating an inflammatory video on Instagram that sought to justify the killing of a Hindu man in Bangladesh on communal lines. He was booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including promoting enmity between groups and assertions prejudicial to national integration. Police officials have warned that those who liked or shared the objectionable content may also face investigation and potential action. The move aims to maintain social harmony and prevent the spread of hate speech on social media platforms.
