An adviser to Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman was stopped by immigration authorities at New Delhi airport due to a security-related blacklist, prompting Dhaka to summon the Indian chargé d’affaires.

Zahed Ur Rahman, the adviser on policy and strategy, was stopped during a security check at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, where he was leading his country’s delegation for a meeting of the Indian Ocean Rim Association.

According to sources, Zahed Ur Rahman has a history of making anti-India statements, which led to his name being on the watchlist.

He was given a one-time exemption to enter India and cleared, but decided to return to Bangladesh by another flight.

Bangladesh's foreign ministry summoned India's chargé d’affaires and conveyed 'deep disappointment' over the incident, with the foreign minister describing it as 'unexpected' and 'unfortunate'.
