A Kalyan court has handed down nine-month rigorous imprisonment sentences to eight Bangladeshi nationals who pleaded guilty to living in Thane district without proper documents. The convictions, issued in four separate cases on December 5, stemmed from their arrests in April 2025. Additional Sessions Judge S G Inamdar found the accused guilty under the Immigration and Foreigners Act and the Foreigners Act, 1946. Each of them was also fined ₹1,000. According to the court, while the accused were liable for punishment, their circumstances, including poverty and lack of education, warranted a humanitarian approach. Four women – Moyna Gazi, Amina Jahangir Gazi, Shehnaz Mohammad Ali Sardar, and Nargis Mohammad Sardar – were arrested in Dombivli, while Majida Rasul Shaikh was detained in Kalyan. Mohammad Shanto Yunus Mulla and his wife Sumi Mohammad Shanto Mulla, who worked as a painter and a beautician respectively, were also arrested in Kalyan. Noor Monu Pathan, a labourer, was arrested in Ulhasnagar. Following their sentences, the jail superintendent will coordinate with the investigating officer to deport the accused after completing their jail terms. However, the case against Taukir Mohammad Gulammudin Aalam, who remains at large, remains pending.
