The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather warning, stating that a low-pressure area formed over the Strait of Malacca and the South Andaman Sea on November 22 is likely to intensify into a depression over the Bay of Bengal by Monday, November 24. According to the IMD, the low-pressure system will move west-northwestwards and intensify further over the southwest Bay of Bengal in the next 48 hours, although it remains uncertain whether it will develop into a cyclonic storm. Heavy rainfall is forecasted for isolated areas in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on Sunday, November 23. The regional meteorological centre in Chennai has issued a yellow nowcast warning for several districts in Tamil Nadu, predicting light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning up to 10 am on Sunday. The low-pressure system has already led to mild rainfall in Puducherry on Sunday morning. As the situation unfolds, residents and authorities in affected areas are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure public safety.
