A 57-year-old businessman, CJ Roy, the founder and chairman of Confident Group, was found dead in his office in central Bengaluru on Friday. The incident occurred while Income-Tax officials were conducting searches at the company's premises as part of an ongoing tax dispute. According to police, the case is being treated as a possible suicide, but investigations are ongoing. Roy, who was being questioned by tax officials, was last seen alive around 12 pm before stepping out of his office to make a phone call to his family. However, he did not return, and a gunshot was heard shortly after. The police and forensic teams were called to the scene, and Roy was taken to a hospital, where he was declared dead. The police have seized the pistol suspected to have been used in the shooting and are reviewing CCTV footage from the property. The Income-Tax officials, who were at the premises for the searches, were allowed to leave after preliminary questioning. The police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, and it's too early to rule out any other possibilities, including abetment. The Income-Tax department has been carrying out coordinated searches at several locations linked to the Confident Group, a major developer in the luxury housing segment in Bengaluru and Kerala. Roy was also associated with the Malayalam film industry, having produced films and served as a title sponsor for the reality show Bigg Boss Malayalam. The police are working to establish the exact circumstances of the shooting, and charges will depend on the findings during the probe.
