Bengaluru College Ragging Incident: 3 Arrested, 20 Charged Over Assault and Humiliation

A shocking case of ragging has come to light at a private college in Bengaluru, Karnataka. Three students have been arrested and at least 20 others have been charged in connection with the incident, which allegedly involved forcing first-year students to fetch cigarettes and assault them with iron rods and wooden sticks. According to police, the incident occurred over two days in late January at the Aakash Group of Institutions in Devanahalli. The seniors allegedly made the juniors follow their instructions, including fetching cigarettes and drinks, and carrying their books. Despite a formal warning from the administration, the ragging continued. The situation took a turn for the worse on January 15 when two junior students refused to comply with the seniors' demands and were assaulted. The victims are minors, and the police have charged the accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Karnataka Education Act. "It's a disturbing case of ragging that went unchecked despite repeated warnings from the management," said a police officer. "The accused have been charged, and further investigation is underway.
