A 22-year-old Dalit man, Darshan P G, died on November 26 at a Bengaluru rehabilitation centre after allegedly being tortured in police custody. In response to the family's allegations, four police officials - including an inspector and a constable - have been suspended. The incident began on November 12 when Darshan was detained for creating a disturbance, and he was later sent to the centre on his mother's request. However, she claims the police took ₹7,500 for admission and that she was not allowed to visit or speak with her son. The authorities initially assured her that he was fine, but later informed her of his death due to respiratory problems. An investigation has been launched by the CID, which has taken over the case and is examining the sequence of events leading to Darshan's death. The police have registered a case under sections 103 and 127 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and relevant sections of the SC and ST Act against the four officials and the rehabilitation centre's owner.
