Chennai Airport has been affected by the Bhogi festival, with eight flights cancelled and ten flights operating with delays ranging from one hour to three hours. The disruptions are due to heavy smoke from waste burning in residential areas surrounding the airport and early-morning fog. The Airports Authority of India had taken precautionary measures by rescheduling flights arriving at and departing from Chennai Airport between 4:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. to minimize disruptions. However, some flights were still cancelled or delayed due to the smoke and fog. A total of 30 flights had their departure and arrival times revised, and passengers were informed in advance about the changes. The cancellations and delays affected both domestic and international flights, with departures from Chennai and arrivals into Chennai being impacted. Despite the disruptions, airport officials reported no significant smoke haze or fog in the area as of 7:00 a.m. today. The Bhogi festival, which is traditionally observed by burning old and discarded household items, has been the cause of disruptions at Chennai Airport in previous years, with a record 118 flight services affected in 2018. This year, the airport has taken steps to minimize the impact of the festival on flight operations. Passengers are advised to check with their airlines for the latest flight information and to plan their journeys accordingly.
