Bihar Government Outlines Ambitious Five-Year Plan with Focus on Jobs, Women's Empowerment and Agriculture

Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan outlined the state government's ambitious five-year plan in his address to a joint assembly session, highlighting key initiatives to create jobs, empower women, and boost agriculture. The plan aims to create 10 million jobs and provide financial assistance of up to ₹2 lakh to women entrepreneurs under the Chief Minister Mahila Rozgaar Yojana. Khan praised the progress made in Bihar since 2005, citing improvements in education, health, infrastructure, and women's empowerment. He noted that the state government has created five million jobs and employment opportunities, which will be doubled in the next five years. Khan also highlighted the success of various schemes, including the Jeevika women self-help groups, 50% women's reservation in local bodies, and a 35% quota in jobs and police. The governor expressed gratitude to the Union government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for financial assistance to the state. He emphasized the NDA government's focus on development with justice and women's empowerment, citing measures such as free uniforms and bicycles for girls. Khan also highlighted the success of agricultural road maps, which have led to a doubling of paddy, wheat, and maize yields. Fish production has increased by 2.5 times, making Bihar self-reliant. The state has also achieved 100% electrification and 125 units of free electricity. Janata Dal (United) leader Narendra Narayan Yadav has filed his nomination for the deputy speaker's post and is set to be elected unopposed on December 4, a position he also held in 2024.
