A case has been registered against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Amit Malviya for allegedly posting a 'provocative' statement on social media platform X. The complaint, filed by All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) leader Tanmoy Ghosh, claims that Malviya's December 19 post threatened communal harmony and India's sovereignty. According to the complaint, Malviya's post made a direct insult to West Bengal, AITC, and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The police confirmed receiving the complaint but stated that no FIR has been registered yet. Officials are currently reviewing the complaint and the social media post to determine further action. Malviya's X post referenced the vandalism in Dhaka, Bangladesh, calling it a 'warning' to societies that appease extremism and normalize lawlessness. He also cited West Bengal's trajectory under Mamata Banerjee as 'deeply worrying,' fearing that the state's institutions will be irreparably damaged if her regime continues beyond 2026. This development adds to the ongoing tensions between the ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal and the BJP, with both sides frequently accusing each other of social media misconduct and attempts to disturb communal peace as the 2026 West Bengal elections approach. Further details are awaited as the probe continues.
