The Bhartiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance has gained 20 TMC lawmakers, bringing its total to 314 seats, but still needs 46 more Lok Sabha seats to pass crucial legislations.

The Narendra Modi government is planning to reintroduce a bill to increase the Lok Sabha's strength from 543 to 815 seats and roll out the delimitation process based on the 2011 decennial census.

The NDA is also likely to push for a bill on simultaneous elections, pending before a Joint Committee of Parliament.

However, NDA managers face a challenge in securing a two-thirds majority in both Houses of Parliament, with the alliance being 46 seats short of the required mark in the Lok Sabha.

The Congress has accused Union home minister Amit Shah of trying to cobble a two-thirds majority in the Lok Sabha.

The DMK's exit from the INDIA bloc of opposition parties could bridge the gap further, but the party has so far opposed the delimitation bill.
