The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a scathing attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for skipping the oath ceremony of Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant on Monday. The BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla claimed that Gandhi prioritizes 'jungle safaris, parties, and foreign tours' over constitutional events. This marks the second time Gandhi has missed a significant event, following the recent Karnataka crisis. The oath ceremony, held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, was attended by President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and several senior Cabinet ministers. CJI Surya Kant succeeded Justice BR Gavai, who retired on Sunday evening, and will serve until February 9, 2027. BJP's IT Cell in-charge Amit Malviya also targeted Gandhi over the Karnataka crisis, stating that the Congress leader appears disinterested in resolving the issue. Malviya's comments come as the Karnataka government faces an intense infighting between the Siddaramaiah and D.K. Shivakumar camps. Gandhi's absence from the oath ceremony has sparked criticism from the BJP, who see it as a reflection of his priorities. The incident has raised questions about the Congress leader's commitment to the country's constitutional system and his role as the Leader of Opposition.
