Delhi's Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) bypolls have concluded, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) securing a significant win, bagging seven out of 12 wards. However, the ruling party failed to retain two seats it previously held. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) emerged victorious in three wards. The voting, which took place on November 30, saw a voter turnout of 38.51 percent, lower than the 50.47 percent recorded in the 2022 MCD elections. Among the winners for the BJP are Suman Kumar Gupta from Chandni Chowk, Anita Jain from Shalimar Bagh B, Manisha Devi from Dwarka B, Sarla Choudhry from Vinod Nagar, Veena Asija from Vinod Nagar, Anjum Mandal from Greater Kailash, and Rekha Rani from Dichaon Kalan. The AAP secured three seats: Ram Swaroop Kanojia from Dakhshin Puri, Anil from Mundka, and Rajan Arora from Naraina. The Congress party won the Sangam Vihar A ward, while the All India Forward Bloc candidate secured the Chandani Mahal ward. A total of 51 candidates contested the 12 seats, with 26 women in the fray. The BJP fielded eight women, the AAP six, and the Congress five. Tight security measures were in place at the 10 counting centres across the national capital, with nearly 1,800 police personnel and paramilitary forces deployed to maintain order. The bypolls were held after the BJP secured a landslide victory in the capital in February 2025, with the party winning nine out of 12 wards. The results of the bypolls are expected to have significant implications for the MCD's functioning and the BJP's grip on power in the city.
