Delhi University was gripped by fear on Wednesday morning after two colleges, Ramjas and Deshbandhu, received bomb threats via email. The messages, sent at 1:59 am, prompted the deployment of Bomb Detection and Disposal Teams (BDDT) and police, triggering a massive evacuation operation. According to Deputy Police Commissioner Raja Banthia, the principal of Ramjas College alerted the authorities early in the morning, prompting an immediate response from BDDT and local police. Anti-sabotage checks were conducted on the campus, while similar searches were carried out at Deshbandhu College. No suspicious objects have been found so far, but the police are yet to identify the sender of the threat email. Speaking to the media, Ramjas College principal Ajay Arora said that practical exams scheduled for Wednesday were abruptly cancelled due to the bomb threat. Deshbandhu College principal Rajendra Pandey confirmed that the college is waiting for clearance from the bomb squad before allowing students to return. This is the latest in a series of bomb threats received by Delhi institutions in recent months. On November 20, five schools in Delhi received similar threats, leading to evacuations and searches before the threats were declared hoaxes. Two days earlier, four district courts and two Central Reserve Police Force-run schools received bomb threats, causing disruptions to court hearings and school activities. In October, over 200 schools in Delhi received bomb threats via email, prompting searches before the threats were declared hoaxes. Last year, a 17-year-old school student sent threatening emails to hundreds of schools, prompting a massive investigation. The student was identified but never apprehended. The recent bomb threats have raised concerns about the safety and security of educational institutions in Delhi. As the police continue to investigate the latest threats, the city remains on high alert, with authorities vowing to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of students and staff.
