A bitter feud between West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose and TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee took a dramatic turn on Wednesday. Banerjee filed a counter-complaint against Bose at the Hare Street Police Station, just 24 hours after the governor had lodged an FIR against him. Banerjee, through his lawyers, sought police action against Bose under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including those related to criminal conspiracy and acts endangering national sovereignty. He alleged that the governor had made statements to excite rebellion and separatist activities against the government and the state of West Bengal, threatening the country's unity and integrity. Banerjee's move came after Bose had slapped him with several sections of the IPC in his FIR, including those related to obstructing a public servant from exercising their duties and acts that endanger national sovereignty. The governor had lodged the complaint following a search operation at the Raj Bhavan compound, which Banerjee had alleged was to find evidence of hidden weapons and ammunition. However, top officials later stated that nothing incriminating was found. Banerjee accused Bose of interfering in the electoral process of West Bengal and inciting a particular religious community to cause riots and promote enmity. He also charged the governor with making false and fabricated statements against the police force and the people of West Bengal. Banerjee's counter-complaint named a senior official attached to the governor's secretariat and sought a probe into Bose's alleged links with 'criminals disguised as politicians'. The TMC leader urged the police to find out the real conspirators behind Bose's alleged criminal activities and to investigate the official's participation in the same.
