A shocking case of police bribery has come to light in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, where three officers, including a station house officer, have been suspended for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹1 lakh to release a man in custody in connection with the abduction of a girl from Kolkata. According to Additional Superintendent of Police Durga Prasad Tiwari, the alleged kidnapper, Gajendra Singh, had taken the girl to his brother-in-law's house in Dhanoli Gaura village, where she was rescued by a joint team of West Bengal Police and Bahraich Police on January 11. In a surprising twist, Munijar Singh, the brother-in-law of the alleged kidnapper, lodged a complaint with the anti-corruption cell, alleging that he was asked to pay ₹1 lakh for his release from custody. Following an inquiry, Inspector General of Police Amit Pathak ordered the suspension of Station House Officer Surendra Kumar Baudh, Sub-Inspector Vishal Jaiswal, and Constable Awadhesh Yadav of Matera Police Station. The bribe money has been returned to the complainant, and departmental proceedings have been initiated against the three police officers. The incident has raised serious questions about police integrity and the need for stricter measures to prevent corruption within the force.
