Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a standing ovation at the Union Cabinet meeting on Wednesday for his pivotal role in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) landslide victory in the Bihar elections. The NDA secured a remarkable 202 seats in the 243-member Bihar assembly, with the BJP claiming a significant 89 seats. According to sources, PM Modi acknowledged that the NDA is a genuine coalition of like-minded partners who have come together for the greater good, rather than just electoral purposes. The NDA's impressive win was largely due to its united front against the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)-led Mahagathbandhan, with NDA leaders actively campaigning for each other. Janata Dal (United) chief Nitish Kumar, an NDA constituent, was sworn in as the chief minister for the 10th time. BJP president JP Nadda hosted a dinner for NDA leaders who played a crucial role in the poll campaign. In other developments, the Union Cabinet, chaired by PM Modi, approved two new Pune Metro corridors, Lines 4 and 4A, which will significantly improve connectivity in the city. The project, worth ₹9,857.85 crore, will be implemented by Maha-Metro within five years and will feature 28 elevated stations. The Cabinet also gave the green light for the doubling of two railway lines in Gujarat and Maharashtra, worth ₹2,781 crore. This project will enhance mobility, leading to better operational efficiency and service reliability for Indian Railways.
