The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a new case against Ajay Kumar, an additional director of the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. Kumar allegedly amassed disproportionate assets worth ₹2.06 crore during his tenure from April 1, 2020, to August 13, 2025. According to the FIR, Kumar's cumulative bank balance and assets increased significantly, from ₹5.34 crore to ₹10.66 crore, during the check period. Despite earning a total income of ₹5.52 crore, Kumar and his family members incurred an expenditure of ₹2.26 crore, leaving a substantial amount unaccounted for. The CBI investigation revealed that Kumar's family accumulated additional assets worth ₹6.32 crore in five years, making it a serious case of asset misappropriation. This is not the first time Kumar has been involved in a controversy, as he was earlier booked for taking a ₹5 lakh bribe as the first instalment of a total demand of ₹50 lakh. The CBI has recovered ₹29.50 lakh in cash and ₹50 lakh worth of jewellery from Kumar's premises during previous searches. The agency has now filed a fresh case, alleging that Kumar enriched himself illicitly during his tenure as CMO, CGHS in Meerut. Kumar is currently facing investigation and potential charges for misappropriating public funds and assets.
