A Delhi court has been informed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) that it has made significant progress in verifying the status of accused individuals in the high-profile land-for-jobs scam involving former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family members. The case, which dates back to Lalu Yadav's tenure as Railway Minister from 2004 to 2009, involves allegations of appointments being made in exchange for land parcels gifted or transferred to his family members and associates. The CBI has filed chargesheets against Lalu Yadav, his wife Rabri Devi, son Tejashwi Yadav, and others, accusing them of violating norms and engaging in criminal misconduct and conspiracy. Of the 103 accused, four have passed away. The CBI has requested additional time to file a death verification report and complete the verification of the remaining accused. The matter has been posted for December 19. The prosecution claims that the appointments were made in the Indian Railways' West Central Zone in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, and involved benami properties. The accused have denied the charges, labeling the case as politically motivated. The court will now consider the CBI's request and make a decision on framing charges against the accused in the coming weeks.
