In a bid to deepen students' emotional and historical connection with India's national legacy, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced a year-long series of activities to commemorate the 150th year of Vande Mataram. The initiative, which is expected to promote unity, harmony, and national pride, will kick off with mass singing of the national song and 'Vande Mataram Concerts' on November 7. As part of the month-wise action plan, CBSE-affiliated schools will organize various activities, including quiz competitions, poster-making contests, theme-based speech activities, and essay-writing competitions. The culmination of these events will be a school exhibition in November 2026, showcasing student work prepared throughout the year. "We aim to create a nationwide expression of collective harmony, national pride, and cultural unity, celebrating 'Vande Mataram' as a symbol of the strength inherent in our diversity," said Dr. Praggya M. Singh, professor and director (academics), CBSE. The CBSE has requested schools to ensure effective implementation of the activities and upload the requisite information on its designated Google form. With over 31,740 schools currently affiliated with the national board, this initiative is expected to reach a large number of students and instill in them a deeper understanding and appreciation of India's cultural heritage. The year-long celebrations were inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 7, and a discussion on 150 years of Vande Mataram is scheduled to be held in Lok Sabha on December 8. The CBSE's initiative is seen as a powerful step towards reconnecting students with India's cultural legacy and promoting unity, harmony, and national pride.
