The Chhattisgarh government has given the green light to a ₹46.49 crore project to construct a cutting-edge Integrated Food and Drug Testing Laboratory in Nava Raipur Atal Nagar. The new facility, designed to strengthen the state's food and drug testing infrastructure, will be equipped with advanced technologies and increase its testing capacity significantly. Currently, the state's food and drug testing laboratory operates in a 5,000 sqft building in Raipur. In contrast, the new laboratory will spread over 30,000 sqft in a ground-plus-three storied building. The upgraded facility will be able to test 7,000-8,000 chemical samples annually, up from the current 500-800 samples per year. Additionally, microbiological tests for products like injections and eye drops will increase to 2,000 samples per year, and testing of medical items such as gloves and catheters will begin with an estimated capacity of 500 samples annually. Pharmaceutical sample testing will also rise from 50 to nearly 1,000 samples per year. Health and Family Welfare Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal hailed the decision, stating that the new laboratory will greatly enhance the state's food safety framework, making processes more transparent, efficient, and citizen-friendly. The project aims to ensure access to safe, certified, and high-quality food products and medicines for the people of Chhattisgarh.
