Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma made a surprise visit to a rehabilitation centre in Sukma district, where he met with 94 surrendered Naxalites, including 54 men and 40 women. The centre, which houses former Maoist cadres, is now a hub for their rehabilitation and integration into mainstream society. Sharma, who also holds the Home portfolio, met with the youth and listened to their concerns and experiences. He directed officials to provide proper food, accommodation, and essential services to them. The Deputy CM also instructed officials to organize a special health camp at the centre and arrange a visit to the state assembly in Raipur during the winter session to help them understand democratic processes and government functioning. The rehabilitation centre provides training in masonry, agriculture-based entrepreneurship, and tailoring, and the state's rehabilitation policy aims to assist surrendered youth in securing long-term employment. Sharma's visit comes as a significant milestone in Chhattisgarh's counter-insurgency efforts, with over 2,100 Maoists surrendering in the last 23 months. The state's efforts are part of a larger initiative by the central government to make Chhattisgarh and the country free of the Naxal menace by March 2026. The success of these efforts is evident in the recent surrender of senior Naxal leader Mallojula Venugopal Rao alias Bhupathi, along with 60 other cadres in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district last month. Sharma's visit has given new hope to the surrendered Naxalites, who are now working towards rebuilding their lives. His commitment to their rehabilitation and integration is a testament to the state's efforts to address the Naxal issue and restore peace in the region.
