Chhattisgarh's Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma has strongly criticized protesters in Delhi for allegedly raising slogans in praise of slain Maoist leader Madvi Hidma. The protest, held at India Gate, was against rising air pollution in the national capital. However, the deputy chief minister has taken issue with the pro-Maoist slogans, calling them 'imaginary narratives' about the Bastar region. Sharma, who also holds the Home portfolio, pointed out that the protesters had no first-hand knowledge of the situation in Bastar, which has been affected by Naxalism. He encouraged them to visit the region and see the reality for themselves. 'Meet a 25-year-old man in Bastar who has only recently seen a television for the first time in his life,' Sharma said, highlighting the lack of basic facilities such as schools, hospitals, and electricity in the region. The deputy chief minister emphasized the importance of questioning the government, but also stressed the need to understand the facts before speaking. He warned that Maoism can never be justified and that a government formed through violence will always resort to authoritarianism. Sharma drew parallels with China's Tiananmen Square and the Cultural Revolution, where thousands of lives were lost. He urged protesters to learn from history and protect democracy. Sharma's comments come after the killing of top Maoist leader Hidma in an encounter in Andhra Pradesh, which the Chhattisgarh police have hailed as a 'last nail in the coffin' of the insurgency in the Dandakaranya region.
