In the midst of Operation Sindoor, India's counter-terrorism operation in Pakistan, the CISF personnel at the Uri hydroelectric power plant in Jammu and Kashmir demonstrated exceptional bravery and skill. Assistant Sub-Inspector Gurjeet Singh, one of the 19 CISF personnel awarded the DG's Disc for their heroism, recounted the events of May 7, 2025. As India launched airstrikes against terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POK), the CISF personnel at Uri were alerted to switch off lights and follow a pre-planned drill. The drill, conducted on May 6, had prepared the team for a mass evacuation of families to bunkers in case of an attack. Singh revealed that the team's extensive preparation paid off, with no major damage or loss of life despite heavy shelling in the area. The Uri hydroelectric project, a vital national asset, was a prime target for Pakistan's response. However, the CISF personnel, led by Commandant Ravi Yadav, successfully neutralized the threat. Singh explained that the team had prepared for such an attack, with personnel on the ground moving families to safe bunkers by 2:30 am on May 7. The CISF's swift response and preparation ensured that every family was safely evacuated to bunkers, with no injuries reported. The team's bravery and skill were also put to the test when Pakistan started sending drones towards the civilian houses and the Uri 1 and 2 hydroelectric plant. Singh and his team successfully jammed and shot down the enemy drones, with sister agencies neutralizing the bigger drones spotted in the sky. The CISF's statement on the operation highlighted the team's extraordinary courage and commitment to safeguarding vital national assets. The DG's Disc awarded to 19 personnel on November 25, 2025, serves as a testament to their bravery and dedication to the nation. The CISF's heroism at Uri hydroelectric project is a shining example of their commitment to protecting India's national assets and citizens. Their bravery and skill in the face of adversity are an inspiration to all, and their actions will be remembered as a tribute to their courage and steadfast commitment to the nation.
