In a daring counterattack, Pakistan targeted India's strategic Uri hydroelectric plant near the Line of Control (LOC) just hours after India launched Operation Sindoor. However, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) successfully foiled the attack, preventing any damage to the installation. The CISF, responsible for protecting India's vital infrastructure, credited its personnel for neutralizing hostile drones and securing the area despite intense gunfire from Pakistan. The CISF Director General's disc was awarded to 19 personnel who demonstrated exemplary bravery during the operation. According to CISF officials, the Uri hydroelectric plant was one of the first targets in Pakistan's retaliatory shelling after India's military operation against terrorist hideouts in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The CISF units at the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) installations took swift action to shield the installations and nearby civilian populations. Commandant Ravi Yadav and his team ensured the integrity of critical national assets remained intact, despite the volatile situation. The CISF personnel also undertook a door-to-door evacuation of civilians, including women, children, and NHPC staff and their families, amidst ongoing shelling. The operation marked a significant response by India to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people. The Indian military's swift action in Operation Sindoor struck terror and military installations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir before a May 10 ceasefire.
