Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu emphasized the significance of Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) in transforming farmers into entrepreneurs and stimulating rural economic activity across the state. Speaking at the 'Raitanna Meekosam' programme in East Godavari district, Naidu stressed the need for agriculture to expand beyond cultivation and move into value addition through agro-based industries and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises at the village level. The TDP chief interacted with farmers, discussing major crops and intercrops in the region and seeking suggestions to ensure long-term water security. He also commended farmers who shifted from paddy to oil palm cultivation and encouraged those adopting improved farming methods, highlighting the importance of exploring techniques to increase groundwater levels. To address water scarcity, Naidu assured farmers that water would be supplied through the Polavaram and Tadipudi lift irrigation projects. He emphasized the need to reduce fertilizer use and adopt micronutrient applications, which can fetch premium prices. The chief minister also suggested utilizing oil palm waste as fertilizer and advised dairy farmers to collectively cultivate fodder on designated lands. Naidu announced that electric poles located between oil palm fields would be relocated, and encouraged farmers to diversify into horticulture, agro-processing, and allied sectors to boost household income. He noted that many farmers are well-educated and should engage in both agriculture and the service sector, with his government committed to promoting entrepreneurial families. The chief minister criticized the previous YSRCP government for committing widespread irregularities in revenue and land matters, causing distress to farmers. He alleged that its policies led to 'destruction and insecurity', creating long-term challenges that the NDA coalition government must address. Naidu also accused the opposition of neglecting upland regions, favoring delta areas, and undermining agriculture during its 2019-2024 tenure, while asserting that his government is working to restore confidence and ensure equitable development.
