New Delhi, India - A group of Indian nationals, including students, have safely returned to India via commercial flights from Iran, where widespread protests have been underway and resulted in over 2,500 fatalities. The flights arrived at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport late on Friday night. According to eyewitnesses, the returnees were largely unaffected by the unrest, with many reporting that they were not aware of the full extent of the situation due to internet restrictions. 'We didn't face any problems,' said Ali Naqui, a traveler who was part of a group of 12-13 individuals. 'We have returned from Tehran after an eight-day stay in Iran, where we were initially traveling through Iraq.' The Indian Embassy in Tehran has been working to reassure nationals, providing updates through available communication channels. Abbas Qazmi, whose mother and aunt returned from Iran, expressed relief that the situation was under control once communication resumed. The Indian government has issued advisories to its citizens in Iran, urging them to leave the country via commercial flights. 'We have approximately 9,000 nationals living in Iran, mostly students,' said External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal. 'We are closely monitoring the situation and will take necessary steps to ensure their safety and interests.' Iran has been gripped by protests over economic issues, including inflation and currency devaluation, which have spread to all 31 provinces and evolved into demands for political change. The situation remains fluid, and the Indian government is prepared to take action if necessary.
