The Congress party is facing internal turmoil over the handling of suspended MLA Rahul Mamkootathil, who has been accused of sending obscene messages to a woman actor and making lewd comments to a pregnant woman. Mamkootathil, a first-time MLA, has been campaigning for party candidates in the upcoming local body elections despite being suspended in August. KPCC former president and Kannur MP K Sudhakaran has sparked controversy by claiming he was not informed about the party's decision to suspend Mamkootathil. This stance contradicts Leader of the Opposition VD Satheesan's assertion that the decision was collective. Sudhakaran has also expressed willingness to share the stage with Mamkootathil, citing his desire to help the MLA reform. However, senior Congress leader K Muraleedharan has taken a firm stance, stating that Mamkootathil has no right to attend party meetings or share the stage with leaders until he is reinstated. Mamkootathil has denied the allegations, which have not led to an FIR being filed against him. As the party grapples with the issue, Mamkootathil remains committed to campaigning for his party workers, citing his loyalty to the party that helped him win his MLA seat.
