In a move that has sparked fresh controversy within the party, the Bihar unit of the Congress has expelled seven leaders for six years, accusing them of anti-party activity and indiscipline during the recent Bihar assembly elections. The expulsions, issued by the chairman of the Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee's disciplinary committee, Kapildeo Prasad Yadav, come in the wake of the party's disappointing performance in the 2025 Bihar Assembly polls. The NDA, led by the BJP and JD(U), secured a majority, forming the government. The seven leaders, including Aditya Paswan, Shakeelur Rahman, and Raj Kumar Sharma, were accused of deviating from the party's core ideology, breaching organisational decorum, and issuing misleading statements outside party platforms. The committee highlighted that the leaders had repeatedly criticised party decisions in print and social media, damaging the party's reputation. The move has been met with resistance from within the party, with dissidents accusing the BPCC of scapegoating dedicated workers to deflect blame from senior leaders for strategic failures. The expulsions have also raised questions about the impartiality of chairman Kapildeo Prasad Yadav, particularly given his presence at celebrations for a rival BJP candidate. The Bihar Congress leaders who were expelled include: * Aditya Paswan, former vice president, Congress Seva Dal * Shakeelur Rahman, former vice president, BPCC * Raj Kumar Sharma, former president, Kisan Congress * Raj Kumar Rajan, former president, state Youth Congress * Kundan Gupta, former president, extremely backward department * Kanchana Kumari, president, Banka District Congress Committee * Ravi Golden, Nalanda District The party has maintained that the candidate selection process followed established norms and procedures, with reviews by observers, the Pradesh Election Committee, and the AICC. However, the expulsions have only added to the party's internal unrest, with many questioning the motives behind the move.
