The BJP has come out in support of Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor after he praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech, saying Congress is undemocratic and issues a 'fatwa' against leaders who prioritize national interest over family ties. The BJP accused the Congress of hypocrisy, citing the party's criticism of Tharoor's comments. "If the Congress criticizes its own leaders for praising the Prime Minister, it shows a lack of democracy within the party," said BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla. Tharoor had praised PM Modi's remarks made at an event after the NDA's landslide victory in the Bihar elections, which dealt a significant blow to the Congress. In his X post, he highlighted PM Modi's call to Indians to overcome the 'slave mentality' and his appeal for a national mission to restore pride in India's heritage. The Congress responded by criticizing Tharoor's praise for PM Modi, with leader Supriya Shrinate saying she didn't find anything 'praiseworthy' in the speech and questioned the Prime Minister's response to various issues. The BJP, however, defended Tharoor, saying the Congress should be renamed the 'Indira Nazi Congress' due to its alleged dictatorial behavior and emergency mindset.
