Cyclone Ditwah, now a deep depression, has left a trail of disruptions in Tamil Nadu and neighboring regions. As the storm moves northwards, it's expected to bring heavy rainfall to the Chennai coast and Andhra Pradesh, affecting daily life. In the midst of this chaos, schools and colleges in several districts of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, have been closed until further notice. The Chennai Collector's order has shut down all educational institutions in the district due to continuous overnight rain and waterlogging in low-lying areas. Other districts like Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, and Kancheepuram have also closed their schools and colleges for the day. Some districts are observing local holidays, such as Tiruvannamalai's Karthigai Deepam and Kanyakumari's St. Xavier Church Kottar Festival. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Chennai and most of coastal Tamil Nadu, as well as coastal Andhra Pradesh districts. The alert is also active in Tirupathi, which is under a yellow alert along with most of Andhra Pradesh. According to the IMD, the depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal is expected to move slowly southwestwards towards the north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts and weaken into a Well-marked low-pressure area within the next six hours. The IMD has urged residents to remain cautious and follow updates from local authorities.
