Tamil Nadu has been ravaged by Cyclone Ditwah, leaving three people dead and a trail of destruction in its wake. The storm, which also claimed over 300 lives in Sri Lanka, brought heavy rains to the state, causing the deaths of two people in wall collapses and a 20-year-old youth due to electrocution. According to state revenue and disaster management minister KKSSR Ramachandran, nearly 150 cattle have died and 57,000 hectares of farmland have been damaged in the delta districts. The heavy rains also damaged crops in over 56,000 hectares of land across various districts, with Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, and Mayiladuthurai being among the worst affected. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a red category warning for the north Tamil Nadu coast, Puducherry, and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh. The cyclone weakened into a deep depression by November 30 evening and is expected to move northwards, weakening further into a depression by December 1st morning. As the state struggles to come to terms with the aftermath of the cyclone, officials have warned that it is likely to get colder, with a 2-3 degree C fall in minimum temperature expected over the next two days. The Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai has also warned of a potential drop in temperatures across northwest and east India.
